“This is how it’s gonna be post-Big 3 era” World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and US Open runner-up Casper Ruud trolled mercilessly after first-round exits
Casper Ruud and Carlos Alcaraz
World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and World No. 3 Casper Ruud both suffered first-round exits in their respective events. Alcaraz was the top seed playing at the Astana Open in Kazakhstan whereas Ruud was the top seed at the Japan Open in Tokyo. Both players lost in straight-sets.
Alcaraz was defeated by David Goffin while Ruud was knocked out by Jaume Munar. Goffin won the match 7-5, 6-3 whereas Munar beat Ruud 6-3, 6-3. Alcaraz was returning to the Tour for the first time since winning the 2022 US Open and becoming the World No. 1.

“Just shows they not ready to lead just yet,” Fans on Casper Ruud and Carlos Alcaraz occupying top spots in the rankings
Netizens were however unhappy with both Alcaraz and Ruud as they were the latest Grand Slam finalists as well as players in the Top 3. Alcaraz is the current World No. 1 while Ruud is now ranked 3rd after swapping a place with now World No. 2 Rafael Nadal following the Norwegian’s quarter-final defeat in Korea.
With Alcaraz the reigning Grand Slam champion and Ruud a 2-time finalist at the majors this year, a better performance was expected but the two failed to produce results miserably. With fans looking at the two as Tour leaders in the near future, the result quashed the hopes and Twitteratis made their voices heard.
