Todd Woodbridge might have just given the best compliment to the 22-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the 2023 season. He believes that the Serbian has the potential to complete a calendar-year Grand Slam this year. The achievement of winning all four major tournaments in one discipline is known as “Calendar-year Grand Slam” or “Calendar Slam” or simply “Grand Slam“.

The 35-year-old is in great form and the kind of dominating performance he gave in the Australian Open 2023, blew away the minds of all tennis fans. He won his career’s tenth Australian Open title, but he is hungry for more. He only needs to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open this season to achieve this magnificent feat.

“I think that Novak Djokovic has the best opportunity he’s ever had to win the [Calendar] Grand Slam. I think all four Majors are on the table for him this year. I believe that, that is the absolute goal for him this season. I think he’s going to look at his schedule. He’s going to orchestrate it so that he is at peak performance in all four Majors,” he said.

Novak Djokovic came very close to completing Calendar-year Grand Slam in 2021. He won the Australian Open, French Open, and the Wimbledon Championships that year. However, he failed to win the final of the US Open against Daniil Medvedev.

The current World No.1 is an all-court player. He with his skills and talent has been able to become a force to reckon with on the surface and hence has been very successful in all majors and other ATP tournaments. However, Novak Djokovic must also be wary of the challenges that he may have to face in order to accomplish this incredible run.

Even though Rafael Nadal is struggling with both form and fitness, he will be a great challenge in the French Open 2023. He has won this Championship 14 times and it is expected that he will try to defend his title.

With Roger Federer‘s retirement, it is expected that Novak Djokovic will have a smooth sail in Wimbledon. He is the defending champion in this grasscourt major. However, the younger generation players would like to surprise him. Also, there is suspense over his participation in the US Open. Hence, challenges are aplenty before the Serbian this season, if he wants to become the third player in men’s singles history to complete a calendar-year Grand Slam.
