Ben Shelton is only 20 years old. However, he with his prowess on the court has been exceptional and this week jumped within the Top 40 of the ATP singles rankings. One of the great stories already of 2023 is being the meteoric rise of Ben Shelton. He was playing challengers in the fall last year and now at the Australian Open got all the way to the quarter-finals and has cracked into the Top 50. Absolutely love his game. It’s been fun to watch and improve through college, futures, challengers, and now to where he is,” she said.

In the thick of it, he’s got a massive lefty serve. The leftiness is a huge advantage, a huge forehand as well, the backhand has improved. And maybe the thing that I like the most is that he already, at such a young age, has an all-court game. I would give a lot of credit to his dad Bryan for developing every area of the court. I love his demeanor, he’s got enough energy,” she continued.

Tracy Austin is in awe with Ben Shelton’s game and believes that he has a great future ahead. And she has every reason to believe that. Because Ben Shelton has been really very impressive throughout this season until now. He started his season at ASB Classic tournament, but he was knocked out of this tournament in the second round by Quentin Halys.

The young American then played in the Australian Open where defying tennis fans expectations he reached the Quarter-finals. This helped him to garner media attention. He subsequently saw a dip in form as he was knocked out of the Del Ray Beach Open and Mexican Open in the first round itself. The 20 year old did reach the second round of the Indian Wells Open but he did beat former World No.9 Fabio Fognini in the first round. He was knocked out of the tournament by Taylor Fritz.

Ben Shelton is going to start his campaign in the Miami Open 2023 soon. However, this year he is also expected to participate in other Grand Slam tournaments and ATP tournaments. This has got the whole world excited for him.

It’s almost like he (Ben Shelton) has skipped a few grades, he’s gone from 6th grade to high school. Because you’re playing Challengers in the Fall and now all of a sudden you’re going to be off to Europe for the the first time and you’re going to play on red clay against the grinders. You’re playing against the Mussetti’s, Davidovich Fokina’s. Now the expectations are higher. The outcome? Who knows. But this is part of the process, gain that experience and become more comfortable. Break into the Top-50, the Top-30, I think he has that capability. He has got a great foundation. Excited to see where Ben’s game goes,” Tracy Austin added further.
