Until Rafael Nadal said it himself, prayers were on. Not only the Spanish but just everyone who has been in awe of Rafael Nadal’s hard work was praying that he wouldn’t say it. However, a few decisions cannot be stopped.
Rafael Nadal withdrew from not only the 2023 French Open but the entire season. This is the first time since 2005 he has not participated in the event. As every tennis fan knows, in 18 appearances Nadal lifted the title on 14 separate occasions. The sport has never seen a dominance of this sort in any tournament.
After a near-perfect first half in 2022, the whole world was optimistic about Nadal’s future in the game. However, it wasn’t to be. Age once again took over skill. An athlete can recover quickly when he is young. With age, recovery is a challenge. An abdominal tear at Wimbledon was the beginning of the injury issues for the Spaniard.
He withdrew from the entire season last year and gave his full attention to recovery. He did come back on tour in 2023. However, he looked far from his best when he showed up at the Australian Open. Nadal decided to give himself some more time. However, it didn’t work, and the injuries persisted, forcing him to withdraw from the whole season.
Twitter prays for Nadal’s health and return to the tennis court
The Twitter world immediately reacted to Nadal’s withdrawal, as they all hoped and prayed. Nadal has said that he will try his best to extend his career. However, many anticipate 2024 to be his last.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
For now, all Rafael Nadal needs to do is rest and recover. Do his rehabilitation properly. The world knows that, as he has always done, he will give his 100%. His fans will be praying the entire season.
They will be praying when he returns. They just want to see him play. They would love to see him do what he does best. Create magic on the tennis court and inspire generations.
