United Cup 2023: Groups, venue, format, and everything you need to know about it
United Cup 2023
United Cup is one tournament everybody was waiting for. The mixed-gender format competition will start on the 29th of December, 2022. The competition will be played between 18 countries in three Australian cities- Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane. Tennis Australia is going to manage this year’s event. The tournament will see some of the biggest names on the ATP and WTA tours.
Beginning on December 29, three cities—Sydney (Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre), Brisbane (Queensland Tennis Centre), and Perth—will host the 11-day competition (RAC Arena). On outdoor hard courts, teams in Sydney and Brisbane will compete. Perth will have a hard court inside. The Australian Open Dunlop balls will be used at all three locations.
This is the first time this tournament is being played. The tournament seeks to replace the Hopman Cup, which was also a mixed-gender tournament. However, this is the first time both male and female players are playing together in one team.
Group Stage
Six nations qualified based on their No. 1 player’s ATP ranking; six nations qualified based on their No.1 singles player’s WTA ranking, and six nations qualified based on their No.1 ATP and WTA players’ best-combined ranking. Australia was admitted as the host country.
The group stage will take place between December 29 and January 3. Two groups of three nations will compete in a round-robin style in each city. The No. 1 and No. 2 ranked players will compete in two ATP and two WTA singles matches, as well as one mixed doubles match, over the two-day events.
Play-offs
Which team will advance to the United Cup Final Four will be decided on Wednesday, January 4. The team that finished second in the City Final and had the best record after three games will be the fourth team. On January 5, there will be a travel day for the Final Four. In Sydney, the semifinals will take place over two days on Friday, January 6, and Saturday, January 7.
Final
The United Cup final will be played on January 8, 2023, on Sunday.

Also, some very young and talented players such as Lorenzo Musetti, Alycia Parks, and Katie Swan will also have their chance to win glory for their country.
Ranking Points and Prize Money
The United Cup’s $15 million in total prize money will be distributed equally between the ATP and WTA. Rankings, match victories, and team victories all factor into individual prize money. However, the Mixed doubles team will not receive any points.
A player can earn a maximum of 500 points for the week, depending on their ranking.
