Jannik Sinner has been enjoying life back home ever since he won the 2024 Australian Open. The World No. 4’s victory in Melbourne Park started massive celebrations in Italy as he became just the second Italian man in the Open Era to win a Major title.

The manner in which he secured the title made the occasion extra special. Having conceded the first two sets against Daniil Medvedev, it looked difficult for the 22-year-old to make a comeback. But he proved his doubters wrong and came back from two sets down to win the coveted Norman Brookes Cup.

Following his return to Italy, the World No. 4 received a special invitation from the country’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The two were seen discussing his AO finals win before Sinner presented his trophy to her. The two then held the Italian flag together and posed for photos before sharing a hug.

Following the meeting, Sinner also held a press conference. As expected, he was questioned about his next goals including replacing Novak Djokovic as the World No. 1. Sinner was humble as always and quite simply laid out his plan for the rest of the season.

When things are going well you always want more. My thing has always been to win a Grand Slam, and now that I have achieved it I want to experience again what it feels like to achieve it. The best thing I can do is train hard again soon.
said Sinner speaking with the press in Rome.
There is a big difference between being top-5 and then moving to the top-3, and even more until reaching number 1. I am now fourth in the ranking, so I have a lot to do until I reach the top.
added the Italian.

Novak Djokovic holds a massive lead over Jannik Sinner in the ranking points

As Sinner mentioned, he still has to break into the Top-3 before aiming for the top spot currently held by Djokovic. Nole has been the player to have spent most weeks as the World No. 1.

He has now spent more than 410 weeks at the top, 100 weeks more than Roger Federer who is second on the list.

The Serb currently tops the charts with 9855 points to his name. Sinner is fourth with 8310 of his own. Between these two, Carlos Alcaraz is in the second spot with 9255 points while Medvedev is third with 8765 points.

With two more months of hardcourt action left before the focus shifts completely to the clay season, Sinner has a good chance to close down the gap. It’s unlikely that Djokovic will be playing on the Tour this month having skipped the Dubai Championships.

With March having only the Indian Wells and Miami Masters, the Italian would fancy his luck to shake things up in the rankings. Sinner was supposed to play in the 2024 Marseille Open but withdrew following his win in Melbourne. As of today, neither the Dubai nor Acapulco events have Sinner on their list keeping his return a bit mystery.
