World No.8 Andrey Rublev will go one-on-one against the experienced Frenchman Gael Monfils in what is set to be a thrilling second-round matchup at the 2023 US Open. The Russian is in huge form this year and showed great ambition during his first-round win against Arthur Cazaux. Eight-seed Andrey Rublev has been in an extravagant form this year making it to the later stage of the majority of the tournaments he has participated in. He already has won a Masters title this year at Monte Carlo and apart from that he also emerged as the champion at the Nordea Open. He was also the runners-up at the Dubai Championships and the Terra Wortmann Open losing to Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Bublik respectively. At the ongoing US Open, he beat Arthur Cazaux in straight sets by a scoreline of 4-6, 6-7, 1-6.

On the other hand, Gael Monfils is a veteran of the sport and has nothing more to prove to the world. He is still doing well and is trying to make it as far as possible in the participating tournaments. He has played very selective tournaments this year, providing his body with the right amount of rest to be ready for the Major tournaments. He started 2023 with a title in what was his first tournament of the year, the Adelaide Open. He also made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, and since then, it has been pretty much a decent run of form for the Frenchman. 

Recently at the National Bank Open, he impressed the entire tennis world beating players such as Stefanos Tsitsipas, Christopher Eubanks, and Vukic only to lose against Sinner in the quarters. He has kept that confidence going as he came from behind in his first-round win against Taro Daniel at the ongoing US Open winning the match eventually by 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-7.
