Karolina Muchova vs Sorana Cirstea: Preview

Czech star Karolina Muchova, who has been seeded 10th in the ongoing US Open, has left the tennis world impressed with her form this year. She has made it to the finals of the Roland Garros against all odds, eventually losing to Iga Swiatek after battling it out in a three-set thriller. 

She also made it to the finals of the recently played Cincinnati Masters, losing again to Coco Gauff in straight sets. She has also been quite consistent this season, making it to the quarterfinals on numerous occasions, be it the Auckland Open, the Dubai Championships, or the Indian Wells Masters.

In the ongoing US Open, she has beaten Storm Hunter in the first round by 6-4, 6-0, followed by a 6-3, 6-3 win over Magdalena Frech in the second round. In her third-round matchup, she beat Taylor Townsend by a scoreline of 7-6, 6-3, followed by a great 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win against Wang Xinyu in the round of 16 matchup.

On the other hand, Sorana Cirstea is not among the list of most known women players but has had a pretty decent year so far. Among her notable performances this year has been the semi-final finish at the Miami Open, where she, unfortunately, lost against eventual champion Petra Kvitova after beating players such as Madison Keys and Caroline Garcia on the way. She also made it to the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters, losing to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. 

At the ongoing US Open, she beat Kayla Day in the first-round encounter by 6-2, 6-3, and then went on to beat Anna Kalinskaya by a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4. In the third round, she ousted Elena Rybakina by a scoreline of 3-6, 7-6, 4-6 followed by a great 6-3, 6-3 win against Belinda Bencic in the round of 16 matchup.

It is expected to be a nail-biting contest between the two tennis stars that very few tennis fans would have expected to make at this stage of the tournament. The two stars have faced each other on three occasions in the past with Muchova leading the head-to-head winning on two occasions with their last match being at the recently played National Bank Open which ended in a straight sets victory for the Czech star.
