“US Open in danger?” Rafael Nadal’s wife to undergo immediate surgery in Spain related to a pregnancy complication
Rafael Nadal's wife
Rafael Nadal is currently in New York gearing up for the US Open but unfortunately for him, things aren’t going great for the time being. Nadal’s wife, Maria Francisca Perello, has reportedly been admitted to a clinic in Mallorca after she experienced complications in her pregnancy. She is currently 31 weeks pregnant and the couple is expecting the delivery to go through by the end of October.
Due to those complications, Maria will undergo an operation soon. She was admitted to the clinic a day ago under observation as a precautionary measure. The doctors are trying every possible thing to avoid surgery. Since Nadal is in New York, Xisca’s parents are by her side during this tough phase along with Rafa’s sister, Maribel Nadal.
Ahead of Wimbledon, Nadal confirmed that he will become a father soon if everything goes as planned. Fans on social media were very concerned about Maria’s poor health and wished her well. They also hoped that the surgery will be a successful one and were hopeful that this will not impact Nadal’s US Open campaign.
There have been doubts over Rafa’s participation in the US Open due to this news but as of now, he is set to compete. He played a charity doubles match earlier in the day and hopefully, things will only get better with time.
Can Rafael Nadal make it 23 in the US Open?
After withdrawing from the Wimbledon semifinal, Nadal played in Cincinnati last week but lost his opening match to eventual champion Borna Coric in three sets. A lot of positives could be taken from the match but once again, the main concern will be his fitness. If fully fit, Nadal has the capability to take on any opponent and will be one of the favorites to win the tournament.
He is seeded second in the tournament and will be hopeful for a good draw. Nadal could really go all the way if he’s fit and can win his 23rd major title in New York.
