Tennis Twitter reacts to Elena Rybakina’s loss at the US Open

Elena Rybakina played against French professional Clara Burel in the first round of the 2022 US Open, the Wimbledon champion’s dreams were quickly cut short by Burel as Rybakina lost the match by 4-6, 4-6. What fans hated most about the match was the disrespect that Rybakina was treated with as she wasn’t even allotted a proper stadium for her match with Burel.
Fans took to Twitter to call out the USTA for being biased toward the Wimbledon champion, Rybakina was not allotted a proper stadium for her US Open opener and many across the globe took it as a sign of disrespect which stems from the fact that Rybakina was born in Russia and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been a major hindrance for her.
Journalist, Jose Morgado wrote on Twitter, “Feel for Rybakina. Won the biggest tournament in the world, didn’t get rewarded in terms of ranking and played in the parking lot of every tournament since. Struggling. But the current Wimbledon champ playing her first match of the next Slam on Court 12 doesn’t feel right.“
After beating Elena Rybakina in the first round of the US Open, Clara Burel is scheduled to face Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round of the tournament.
