Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian professional is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. With 21 Grand Slam titles to his name, Djokovic is constantly proving that he has rightfully earned a place amongst the all-time greats of the sport. With the 2023 Australian Open underway, Djokovic is considered the favorite to go all the way and win the title.
Canadian professional Vasek Pospisil recently opined on the players he thinks will do well at this year’s Australian Open. With no surprises, Pospisil picked Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as his top two contenders for the title. The Canadian hopes that Djokovic is able to go all the way and win the title over Rafael Nadal.
Talking about the favorite to win this year’s Australian Open, Pospisil said, “I hope he (Djokovic) wins it, I would consider him the favorite, absolutely. If you have to pick a favorite, it’s hard to pick someone else. Having said that, obviously, there are so many great players and incredible talents put together for one week. Obviously, just him being Rafa, clearly he’s got a great chance of winning as well, and it would have to be right up there. Right below Novak as a favorite I would say.”
Novak Djokovic to face Roberto Carballés Baena at the Australian Open
The 2023 Australian Open is yet to get underway for Serbian professional Novak Djokovic. The Serb is going to go up against Roberto Carballés Baena in the first round of the tournament. Djokovic is one of the biggest favourites to go all the way and win the title, according to Pospisil, Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are the two biggest contenders for the title.
Rghtfully so, being the two greatest players of all time. It is sort of a given that Nadal and Djokovic are expected to be favorites for every tournament that they compete in. Nadal had a bright start to this year’s Australian Open as he defeated British professional Jack Draper in the first round of the tournament. Nadal emerged victorious from the tie after a game that last for four sets.
Now, Nadal goes up against American professional Mackenzie McDonald in the second round of the tournament. The Spaniard seemed to be struggling in the first round but only time can tell whether he will hold up in the second round as well or not.
