Venus and Serena Williams’ childhood home to be auctioned as father Richard Willams and his ex fail to repay the mortgage
Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Richard Williams with former wife Lakeisha
The childhood home of Venus and Serena Williams will go under the hammer after father Richard Williams and his ex-wife Lakeisha failed to repay the mortgage on it. Lakeisha had forged Richard’s signature to get a loan of $255,000 but blew up the entire money in a failed truck business and ‘fast-food’.
As Richard’s signature was there, he was also a party in the case under trial after ‘hard-lender’ David Simon filed a lawsuit over non repayment. The amount had risen to $584,109 inclusive of the interest. With no financial aid for Lakeisha as Richard remains estranged, the house will be auctioned soon.
Venus and Serena Williams’ old home valued at $1.4 million
Venus and Serena grew up in the historic house situated in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The property has 4-bedrooms and has been listed for auction at and estimated $1.4 million. As per earlier reports, the debt portion will be first cleared after the sale.
However, sale of the property is dicey. Many court documents and testimony by Simon reveal that the property needs a lot of repairs. The current condition of the property is bad where it cannot be insured as well, putting a massive dent on the auction process.
Richard brought the property back in 1995, a year after Serena had turned Pro with both sisters still in their teens. The property was brought by Richard along with his then-wife Oracene Price, mother of Venus and Serena. It stayed in his name even after the divorce in 2002.
What happens to the amount once the debt is paid after auction has not been revealed. There are doubts if the money will go to Richard or Lakeisha. However, with no interest shown in the case by Richard or his superstar daughters, the money could well go to Lakeisha.
