There are instances where people often forget the one exciting moment that happened years ago. It was time to bring one such moment back, as Serena and Venus Williams, along with soccer star Alex Morgan have produced a soccer documentary “Copa 71” featuring the forgotten stars of 1971.

Copa 71, a football World Cup featuring many countries that have all gathered at Mexico’s Azteca Stadium. With the hype rising by the minute, more and more people started to appear at the stadium to watch the tournament. What made it so special was that it was an unofficial World Cup, featuring only women. The documentary narrates the story of these amazing women and how they were treated as rock stars during the tournament.

The documentary film is produced by James Erskine and Rachel Ramsey and features soccer players like Elvira Aracen and Brandi Chastain. With the tennis great producing the film, Serena got to narrate a few parts of the documentary.

Surprisingly, Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to “Copa 71” and plans a summer theatrical release. The documentary is also co-produced by award-winning studios like Westbrook Studios, New Black Films, and Dogwoof. Westbrook Studios was the producer behind the award-winning film “King Richard”, which chronicled the life of Richard Williams, the father of Serena and Venus.

The soccer documentary Copa 71, on the life of the 1971 unofficial Women’s World Cup, has made headlines all around the world as Greenwich Entertainments have acquired the U.S. rights to this film.

Produced by tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams along with football star Alex Morgan, the documentary will soon be released in many more countries. The Co-directer James Erskine, as the film has the potential to reach new heights.

Copa 71 premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival and has even screened at BFl London. The movie also screened in a couple more film festivals and is now set to release on a big screen and in more countries at once. A huge moment for women’s sports, as they got to revisit some of the most thrilling moments of an unofficial football World Cup, and how the people showed love for the sport then.
