A legend of the game Venus Williams lost her luggage ahead of the recently played Canadian Open and heavily bashed American Airlines for their irresponsibility. She also uploaded a post on her Instagram stating about the issue which kept her busy just three days away from the tournament. She also talked about how much of pressure she had undergone ahead of the competition calling the agency multiple times for her precious bag to be returned safely.
Through her Instagram story, she illustrated how much time she spent on the phone and the only thing she thought about all day was when she would be back with her bag again. Now participating at the Cincinnati Open, she was asked at the post-match conference after her first-round match against Veronika Kudermetova if she received her luggage back.
Venus happily replied, “I finally did. I called every hour, like, I’d get off the phone and then I’d call right back and speak to another agent. I’m relentless. I needed my bags, and it was days of calling (smiling). But I have my clothes now. I’m grateful. The day I played my match was the craziest day ever in terms of preparation. Like, there was none. I was running to buy clothes, and, you know, just all over the place. It was nuts.”
Venus was then asked if she had a new airline of choice, to which she replied, “Oh! It happens. I forgive and forget.”
How has Venus Williams begun her Cincinnati campaign?
Despite crossing 40 and at the last stages of her career, Venus still has the hunger in her to fight for titles and keep on playing at the top level. She didn’t have a great start to the year so far but gradually improved as the year progressed which she personally agreed to as well. At the ongoing Cincinnati Masters, she started her campaign with great pomp and show winning her first-round encounter against Kudermetova.
She won the match in straight sets but the main highlight of her matchup was the second set comeback. She trailed the second set by 5-1 with everyone expecting the match to progress to the third round but Venus had other plans registering a super comeback to win the game 6-4, 7-5.
In the round of 16 matchup, she faced Qinwen Zheng losing the match despite winning the first set. She lost the match 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 putting up absolutely no test for the Chinese star in the second and third set whatsoever.
