As the cover star of the Glamour magazine, Venus Williams took part in an interview where she talked about a lot of things. One of them being how the beauty standards have changed over the years and how the American icon has witnessed the change over the course of her career.
Talking about it, she said, “The standard of beauty right now is more inclusive, which is wonderful. But at the same time there is a lot of pressure. The standard of beauty 20, 30 years ago was to be as thin as possible. Now it has shifted more to being as curvy as possible. Now there is a pressure to augment yourself to fit into this standard somehow which is not realistic.“
“Either standard was not realistic , but I am happy that it’s more inclusive at this point. It’s about knowing yourself, you just gotta know you, be comfortable with you, accept you if that means also augmenting then that’s fine too as you accept yourself.”

Venus Williams talks about equal pay between men and women
In the interview with Glamour magazine, Venus Williams was also asked about her opinion on the qual pay of men and women in sports. The American icon had a lot to say about this particular topic.
She said, “When I was growing up, I just wanted to play tennis tournaments and when i got there, it was not equal. Being a part of achieving equal prize money for the women at the major tennis tournaments was fantastic. Now it is my dream that women would not have to face that anywhere. No young girl will have to come in and realize that her male counterpart is being paid more and hopefully these gaps will continue to close.“
“In order to close those gaps, we have to do work and we also have to create awareness. Most people don’t wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and say ‘gosh, so and so is getting paid less that so and so.’ It’s important to change these mentalities at every single level whether it’s the employee, or the leadership.“
