Venus Williams has some disappointing news for her fans. The American will not be making an appearance in the 2024 Australian Open. As per the former World No. 1, her return can be expected well into next year.
The reason for her postponement is her fall at this year’s Wimbledon. Playing against Ukrainian player Elina Svitolina, Venus fell while playing and got inured. This injury has apparently disrupted her plan for the next season. The last match that the 43-year-old played was at the US Open against Greet Minnen.
“I tried my best to recover for the US Open. I did not reach my form, so now I am just resting until I get back. I am targeting March,” she stated as per Tennis.com.
The injury at Wimbledon was a watershed moment in Venus’ 2023 season, as she faced new problems in subsequent competitions. She competed in four tournaments following Wimbledon, including early exits in Montreal and Cincinnati. Notably, she secured a victory against Veronika Kudermetova in Cincinnati but faced defeat against Zheng Qinwen.
