Victoria Azarenka was booed out of the crowd after losing a thriller against Elina Svitolina. The final score of the box-office match was 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (11-9). The twists and turns of the thriller had the crowd on their feet multiple times, but the Ukrainian star held her nerve at the most crucial moments to clinch a memorable win, which will definitely be one of the best moments of her career.

As Svittolina herself said, “After giving birth to our daughter, this is the second happiest moment in my life“. The match-up had all the political build-ups as well due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war. But the tennis Twitter seemed shocked to see Azarenka being booed out of the crowd despite playing her out. After all, it is Svitolina’s decision to not shake hands with any of the Russian or Belarusian players after the matches.

After the marathon thriller against former Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka, the Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina has an even more difficult test ahead in the quarter-finals where she will have to face the current World No.1 and one of the top favorites to clinch the title – Iga Swiatek.

Swiatek made a miraculous comeback in the fourth round saving two match points in the second set against Olympics Gold medallist Belinda Bencic. The final score was 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3. She showed the mentality of a true champion when things looked tough. She was trailing in the second set at 4-5 (15-40) on her own serve but managed to get through it with sheer mental strength.

Svitolina has lost to Swiatek in the only match they have played against each other before. It will be interesting to see how the Ukrainian can capitalize on the confidence she built with the win over Azarenka in her next round.
