Roger Federer shared a heart-felt note on his social media announcing his retirement from the professional sport as he wrote about one of the toughest decisions of his life. He will play his final matches at the Laver Cup in London which starts on the 23rd of September. He was hoping for a comeback this year but had been pushing it due to his injuries and unable to be at his absolute fittest.

Federer is undoubtedly regarded as one of the greatest players of all time who has etched his name in the history of tennis with his charisma, hard work, and one of the calmest players on the court. The Swiss icon is adored by millions of tennis fans across the globe for his poise and inhuman skills on the court.

Roger Federer, the former world number one, has many records to his name. He holds the record for most ATP final matches wins with 59 singles matches. The Swiss legend has won 103 ATP singles titles including 20 singles Grand Slam titles in his career that lasted for 24 long years.

He has been missing in action since Wimbledon in 2021 where he lost in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championship against Hubert Hurkacz. Being out of the action for months, he dropped out of the rankings, and for the very first time remained unseeded since his debut. His retirement rumors were doing the rounds since his long absence but his desire to play once again during his appearance at Wimbledon put the rumors to rest for some time.

Upon his retirement, a video went viral reminiscing his journey over the years, especially his 103 ATP singles titles that were accumulated within 90 seconds to give a farewell to the legend and mark the end of an era as there will be no player like him in generations to come.

But his fitness concerns amid his injuries and age factor which does no good, he took the tough call before he plays his final tournament at the Laver Cup in the star-studded Team Europe. In his retirement announcement, he stated that he will still be associated with tennis and will be playing but not as a Pro player. He said, “Finally, to the game of tennis: I love you and will never leave you.
