Rafael Nadal's winning moment at the 2022 French Open

Rafael Nadal added another feather to his cap by winning a record 22nd grand slam title. He defeated 8th seed Casper Ruud in the final of the 2022 French Open in straight sets 6-3,6-3,6-0 to win a historic 14th Roland Garros title. With this win, he is now 2 majors clear of arch-rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. He has also become the oldest French Open champion in the competition’s history.

Nadal was dominant right from the very start. He looked extremely focused right from the very start and didn’t give Ruud any chance. He was quick to break a nervous Ruud at the very start and then capitalized it to take an early need. That break of serve was all he needed as he took the opening set 6-3.

Nadal picked from where he left in the next set and then started dominating from the baseline right from the start. He once again took an early break and then backed it up with another bold service hold. Not much was required in terms of intensity as Ruud’s unforced errors helped him right from the beginning. Nadal win the second set 6-3 and was just one set away from creating history.

The third set has Rafa Nadal painted all over it. He was hitting winners left, right, and center, right from the very start, and took an early break once again. He was dominant on Ruud’s serve and made him look like an average player in a grand slam final. Nadal was ruthless to take another break and bageled an opponent for the 21st time at Stade Roland Garros to win his 14th Roland Garros title.

As soon as he broke Ruud to win the title, Nadal broke into tears. It was understandable considering his monumental win and the amount of physical trouble he had to go through in the last few weeks.

Nadal has also quashed all retirement rumors and has publicly said that he will try his best to be back next year too.
