Despite playing her heart out, it wasn’t Ons Jabeur‘s day at the office as she suffered a heartbreaking loss in the 2022 US Open final. Jabeur lost the match in straight sets 2-6,6-7(5) and will end her season with two runner-up finishes at majors this year. She also made it to the Wimbledon final a couple of months ago but lost to Elena Rybakina.
Jabeur is considered one of the most friendly people on tour and is loved by almost everyone. She tends to joke around and has a very playful side to her. Even after losing the final, she held her head high and came out to heap praise on Swiatek.
In the trophy ceremony, Jabeur was seen sorting out the collar of Swiatek’s jacket which was deemed as a very candid and classy gesture by the Arab woman. But some people on social media argued that she was acting because of her statements toward the champion. It was clarified that Jabeur was just joking and has no issues with the US Open champion.
In her post-match on-court interview, she joked about not liking Swiatek very much and later clarified that he was just joking. “I want to thank the crowd for cheering me up. I really tried but Iga did not make it easy for me. She deserves to win today. I don’t like her very much right now, but it’s okay,” Jabeur said. “I was joking when I said I don’t like her. I’ll forgive her when she gives me a Rolex or something.”
