Emma Raducanu

World No. 10 Emma Raducanu will be the 2nd seed at the upcoming 2022 Citi Open in Washington, the first WTA-250 tournament of August in the build-up for the 2022 US Open. Raducanu has a massive task at her hands this month where she will be the defending champion at the US Open and will have to defend 2000 points. A poor US Open performance could see the British teenager drop to outside the Top-100 as well.

Raducanu will be keen to pick up some big wins on her way to New York for the Grand Slam and her journey will begin in the capital when she takes the court in DC for the Citi Open. Given her best results have come on hardcourts, good performances will be expected from her once again and with two back-to-back WTA-1000 tournaments set to follow the Citi Open, Emma could add some crucial ranking points to her name.

Raducanu has expressed her liking for the English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspurs on multiple occasions and has even worn the club’s jersey during her practice sessions. One such Tottenham fan came to see Emma practice in Washington and the Brit star obliged to sign the fans’ t-shirt while also handing out her autograph to many other fans who patiently waited for their chances while Emma’s new coach Dmitry Tursunov watched on as Emma has been a crowd favourite in the USA ever since she won the major last year.

Emma will take on Marie Bouzkova in the first round to begin her campaign in the US Open Leg Series which is really a ‘do-or-die’ month for her because if she is unable to hold a good amount of points, she will have to work her way back into the top spots of the rankings which would require a lot more consistency from the young Brit who is playing in her first-ever full season.
