World No.7 Coco Gauff recently released a video of her dancing with her ASB Classic trophy on TikTok to adoring reactions from fans. In the video, Gauff breaks into a move to a remixed version of the song Starboy while holding the trophy in her right hand. She is also draped in a traditional garment of the Māori, which was given to her after she clinched the title.

This title is Gauff’s first one since 2021, and she looks delighted to win it. The French Open finalist deserved it after putting in some fine performances throughout the week of the tournament. Gauff did not drop a set on the way to the final. She also maintained her levels through what was a weather-affected tournament.

The final was the same. Coco Gauff thrashed the Spaniard, Rebeka Masarova, to win the ASB Classic. The American teen won the match 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the third title of her career. She proved her first seed placing was deserved with such dominant performances. She has clearly made improvements to her game and has now ended her seven-game losing streak.

Entering the tournament as the seventh seed, Gauff will be looking to improve on last year’s first-round exit. The teen is aiming to follow her idols, the Williams sisters, and win a Grand Slam this year.

American tennis player Coco Gauff said she felt “empowered” on seeing the haka in Auckland. Ahead of the ASB Classic finals, Gauff and opponent Masarova were serenaded by the traditional dance of the Indigenous people of New Zealand, the Māori.

Tweeting about the experience afterward, Gauff wrote,” Such a cool experience to see the traditional Māori war dance known as the “Haka” up close! I’ve seen videos of it performed before various sporting events & was so surprised to see it done before my match! I felt so empowered! Thank you for sharing your culture with me??”

Gauff was also honored with a Korowai after her win. The garment is a Māori cloak that is a symbol of leadership. Gauff posted a photo of her wearing the garment and expressed her gratefulness at being honored with it.
