Daniil Medvedev's Coach leaves the match

Daniil Medvedev, a Russian tennis star, was defeated in the final of the Halle Open today by Hubert Hurkacz, a Polish tennis player. Medvedev was clearly the favourite going into the final, but Hurkacz stunned the Russian star by winning his maiden Grass court title.

Meanwhile, something interesting occurred throughout the contest. Gilles Cervara, Medvedev’s coach, unexpectedly departed the court while Daniil Medvedev was still on the court. It appears that Medvedev and his coach were not getting along. The French Tennis court had had enough of Medvedev’s dreadful performance, as he lost the match in just 1 hour and 3 minutes, with the Polish player winning 6-1,6-4.

Medvedev, 25, lost the first set 6-1 and, regrettably for his coach Gilles Cervara, let his rage out. Cervara decided to stand up and leave the stadium in Germany rather than put up with any more hostility from the Russian. Cervara sat next to Medvedev’s wife, Daria Medvedeva, who appeared to wipe a tear from her eyes after her husband’s outburst. As the camera zoomed in on her face, she seemed as if she wanted the ground to swallow her up, but Medvedev did at least apologise to her after his 6-1 6-4 defeat.

He said, “Daria, thanks a lot for this week. Not easy to be with me on the court sometimes but hopefully next time will be easier and much better. Also thank you guys [the crowd] very much, sorry for not making this match longer and more interesting!”
