World No. 19 Frances Tiafoe is currently preparing for the 2022 Tokyo Open. The American will look to continue his fine form as he looks to break into the Top 15. Coming fresh from a US Open semi-final run and leading Team World to a maiden Laver Cup, Tiafoe will back himself for the Tour title.

Tiafoe grew up playing and watching basketball and has been a big fan of the Washington Wizards. With the Wizards in Tokyo as well for the pre-season of the upcoming 2022-23 NBA season, Tiafoe had the chance to watch the Wizards live. The team however suffered an 87-96 defeat to reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors.

For Tiafoe it was however a good day as he got to meet Warriors’ superstar and the current NBA Finals MVP Stephen Curry. Curry and Tiafoe were captured having an exchange after the game and it was all smiles between the two athletes leading their country in their respective sports.

Tiafoe has been having a good season for him so far with consistent results over the past couple of months. The American will however look to make the best of his chances next week at the Ariake Tennis Center where he is seeded 4th at the ATP-500 event.

With a meeting with some of his favourites from the world of basketball, Tiafoe would have surely got some more motivation to have a successful week in Tokyo. A title next week could take him into the Top-15 and end his drought of four years having won his only ATP title back in 2018.

Tiafoe has another chance to watch the Wizards as they take on the Warriors once again on the 2nd of October, a day prior to the start of Tiafoe’s tournament. With the draw yet to be made, Tiafoe still has a couple of days to know who will be his first opponent.
