Benoit Paire loses his cool after his loss in the second round at Citi Open
Benoit Paire lost his second-round match against Holger Rune in straight sets 3-6,2-6 at the Citi Open 2022 in an hour and eighteen minutes of play. He started his hard-court season by winning the first-round match against Peter Gojowczyk. He has already lost 23 out of the 30 matches he played this year.
Paire had faced early-round exits at this year’s Wimbledon Championship as well as the French Open. He also got eliminated in the initial rounds at the 2022 Australian Open. He has strong gameplay but is yet to win a Grand Slam title. He has been facing a lot of difficulties due to his poor form. Paire even announced an indefinite break from tennis in the month of June but soon returned back in July. He even revealed the fact that he is battling depression.

Benoit Paire is well-known for doing weird and controversial stuff on and off the court. This time, he added some more drama to his name after losing to Holger Rune. It was a hot and humid day with both the players struggling to cope with the weather. Paire couldn’t control his emotions giving an incredible reaction to the situation as he was struggling with the hot and humid weather in Washington DC.
After losing his match, he was on his way to shake hands with his opponent at the net. While walking up to the net and before he shook hands, he first started ripping off his shirt , took it off and then threw it at his opponent Rude. After that, he shook hands with Rude half-naked who returned him the shirt after shaking hands off. He then threw the shirt again to the chair umpire. Everything was accompanied by the laughs of his opponent, the player himself, and also the crowd at the stadium.
But it was Paire who did the inevitable which was not the first time he had done it. This instance was repeated by the Frenchman at Acapulco while he was playing against Daniil Medvedev. During the ninth game, Paire ripped his shirt apart. He was seemingly struggling with the hot and humid weather in Acapulco. Fortunately, the Frenchman didn’t receive any warnings from the chair-umpire for his actions.
