WATCH: ‘Magician with racquet’ Twitter hails Carlos Alcaraz’s ‘out of the world’ tweener at the French Open as the ‘Shot of the year’
Carlos Alcaraz
Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz is projected as one of the favorites to win the 2022 French Open and so far, he hasn’t disappointed yet. He is through to the quarterfinals where he’ll face third seed Alexander Zverev. Barring his second-round clash, things have been pretty smooth for Alcaraz. In the Round of 16, he eased past Russian Karen Khachanov in straight sets 6-1,6-4,6-4 to reach.
Alcaraz was in control right from the very start and won a whopping 12 out of the first 14 points. He took a double break’s advantage and bagged the first set 6-1. He took the momentum into the second set and despite Khachanov’s stern pressure, he managed to take a decisive break to wrap up the set 6-4. The same scoreline was repeated in the third set as Alcaraz cruised into the quarterfinals to book a date with Zverev in what will be a repeat of the Madrid Masters final.
During the fourth-round match, Alcaraz produced an ‘out-of-the-world’ tweener to win the point. Hitting a tweener is one of the most difficult things in tennis and hitting a tweener for a winner is something very rare in tennis. Alcaraz’s unreal winner was greeted by huge applause from the fans as well as the commentators. Such a shot was last seen by Rafael Nadal a few years ago against Novak Djokovic so the 19-year-old surely took many down the memory lane.
