Nick Kyrgios advanced into the quarter-finals of the 2022 Japan Open along with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis after defeating the local boys Yoshihito Nishioka and Kaichi Uchida in straight sets 6-1,6-2. Kyrgios became the first player in the Open era to reach the finals of the Wimbledon Championship because of a walkover since Rafael Nadal withdrew from the semi-finals because of his abdominal injury.

During the first game of the second set, Kyrgios played an amazing forehand shot that left everyone in awe as the Aussie hit the shot around the net to win a crucial point of the match to level the scoreline to 15-all. It left everyone in disbelief as Kyrgios played the underarm return with such ease.

As soon as Kyrgios hit the shot, he himself was quite astonished and in disbelief upon being able to pull off the shot which looked like something impossible as he had to run across the right side of the court and hit it totally from outside the court but the landed on the court after the return by Kyrgios and his opponents had less time to respond to the shot.

Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis dropped just three games in their opening match which was also his first appearance after the US Open. He had even won the singles as well as the doubles title at the Citi Open and became the first player to win both the singles and doubles titles at Washington in the same year in the tournament’s history.

The Australian duo pair have had a great start to the year after winning their maiden doubles title at the Australian Open and even broke records as the first wildcard pairing in the Open era to win the Australian Open men’s doubles title. They will next face the Spaniard pair Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Pedro Martinez where they are hoping for another title together on the ATP level.

With his consistent performances on the Tour, Kyrgios reached his career-best rankings as he moved up places and made his way into the Top 20 of the rankings.
