Roger Federer‘s farewell at the Laver Cup has left each and every tennis fan around emotional especially with the Swiss maestro breaking down into tears as soon as his doubles match ended on Day 1 of the Laver Cup. The whole O2 arena was in tears literally which showed the impact and legacy Federer is leaving behind apart from becoming the first player to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles in the Open era.

Novak Djokovic, his arch-rival and teammate of Team Europe, upon being asked about his thoughts on one of the greatest emotional nights the history has ever seen with Federer’s final goodbye, could not stop praising the legend for his exemplary contribution to the sport. Djokovic was left speechless for a few seconds remembering the night which was very much emotional.

Djokovic kept aside his rivalry and spoke words of respect and admiration for Federer while expressing his sadness. Just as the Serbian legend spoke about the Swiss legend’s legacy, Federer again got emotional and was about to be in tears again. He said “I think we would agree those was one of the most beautiful moments experienced. We all knew it was going to be an emotional farewell for Roger, I think we were all taken away by the moment and at the same time, it’s a mixture of emotion.

Djokovic further added that “Sadness because one of the greatest athletes of all time is leaving the sport, on the other hand, seeing him happy with the way it all played out. I was just very grateful to be alongside other Team World and Team Europe players to witness that. One of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced in my life.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion couldn’t express his emotions when he saw Federer‘s family presence in his final moments extending his support as he could understand with his situation. He added “I understand and emphasize with Roger because I understand what is necessary to be on the Tour for so long. I think he said it beautifully that his wife Mirka and his closest ones allowed him to play at such an incredible level for so long.

Djokovic further stated that he has so much to express and say about Roger but gave a hilarious reply stating that he would have to keep it short due to his upcoming next doubles match against Jack Sock and Alex De Minaur on Day 2 of the Laver Cup in the next few minutes.
