WATCH: Ons Jabeur and team take a celebratory dip to celebrate her Berlin Open title
Ons Jabeur taking a celebratory dive
Ons Jabeur won her second title of the season and third of her career at the 2022 Berlin Open with Belinda Bencic handing a walkover due to an unfortunate injury when Ons was leading 6-3, 2-1. Belinda slipped and couldn’t recover enough to continue playing and with the 2022 Wimbledon Championships starting in a week, she decided to not force her body going into the finals.
Jabeur won her first WTA Tour title in Birmingham last year during the grasscourt season and since then has added two more titles to her tally, completing the entire set of the Tour as she is now the proud owner of a WTA-250 title won in Birmingham, a WTA-500 title won in Berlin and a WTA-1000 title won in Madrid. As a result of her win, she also rose to her career-high ranking of World No. 3 and if things go her way, she could be the World No. 2 at the 2022 Wimbledon which starts next Monday.
Ons Jabeur takes the ball kids also for the dive
With the tradition seen in the Barcelona Open where, this year, Carlos Alcaraz dived into the pool to celebrate his title, a similar thing was seen in Berlin with Ons and her entire team along with the ball kids jumped into the swimming pool to recognise her title and enjoy her win as she is now the only other active WTA player other than World No. 1 Iga Swiatek to have won multiple titles.
“Yalla! A jump in the water to celebrate never hurt nobody,” captioned Ons to her tweet showing the pictures of the celebration. It was a well-deserved celebration as Ons now travels to Eastbourne fighting for another 500 points in her final week of preparation for the Championships where she will be a big title contender.
