The heartbreak and agony continues for Ons Jabeur. The World No. 6 was fighting in her second consecutive Wimbledon finals but ended up on the losing side yet again. Up against World No. 42 Marketa Vondrousova, Jabeur lost in the straight sets as the Czech won the match 6-4, 6-4.
Jabeur seemed to force a third set finding a lead in the second set. But she couldn’t hold on to it as Vondrousova fought valiantly to wrap the match in straight-sets. This was Jabeur’s third Grand Slam finals defeat in the space of one year. After a rough start to the year, the emotions overtook her as her name was announced as the runner-up.
“I will try to speak because this is very tough. I think this is the most painful loss of my career. It is going to be a tough day today for me. I am not going to give up and I will come back stronger. It’s amazing tournament for me, I want to thank my team for always believing in me. We are going to make it one day, I promise you,” said Jabeur requiring multiple breaks during her on-court interview as she continued choking up.
A title today would have taken Jabeur to the Top-3 of the rankings yet again. She will now however remain on her position. As for Marketa, she makes an entry into the Top 10 for the first time in her career. She makes a jump of 33 places to become the new World No. 9 when the rankings are updated on Monday.
Ons Jabeur’s husband also gets emotional seeing his wife lose
Karim Kamoun, trainer and husband of Ons Jabeur was also in tears as she choked up time and again during her interview. Commonly known as the ‘Minister of Happiness’, the Tunisian’s pain was quite visible as heartbreaks continue for her. After some tough and hard-fought wins in the tournament this year, she would certainly be heartbroken and today it showed.
Jabeur lost the finals in the 2022 Wimbledon, the 2022 US Open, and now at Wimbledon once again. She lost at the 2023 Australian Open in the second round before making the French Open quarter-finals this year. While she will look for the positives once again
