Ons Jabeur hitting a tweener at Charleston Open
Ons Jabeur marked her arrival on the court with a thumping victory in the first round of the Charleston Open against Lesia Tsurenko. After some disappointing performances in the Sunshine Doubles, this victory would be relieving for her.
The World No.5 looked healthy and played shots across the court with ease. She won the match against the Ukrainian 6-3, 6-3. But the highlight of the match was her tweener that caught Tsurenko by surprise and she played the return ball out handing the Tunisian a point.
WTA shared an excerpt of this video on social media with a quirky caption.
“The 2022 @CharlestonOpen finalist is back in the building and hitting tweeners,” the caption read.
Ons Jabeur is still chasing her first WTA title this season.

After the highs of the 2022 season, it was expected that Ons Jabeur will shine bright this season. However, this year has been full of struggles for the Tunisian. She was knocked out of the Australian Open in the second-round after losing to Marketa Vondrousova. Subsequently she decided to withdraw from the Middle East leg of the tour.
She cited health reasons and had to undergo a surgery. However, she entered the Indian Wells Open with high hopes, but again she was knocked out by Marketa Vondrousova in the second-round. The result in Miami Open was even more disappointing as she lost in the first round itself to Varvara Gracheva.
Meanwhile, she has also dropped to World No.4 in the singles rankings. But Charleston Open can be the tournament which can help her to turn things around. Last year, she played the final of the same tournament against Belinda Bencic.

It is also expected that tournaments that are held on clay and grass will suit her more. Her record on both the surfaces is excellent. She won the Madrid Open and became the first Arab-African player to win a WTA 1000 title. She also played the final of the Italian Open against Maria Sakkari.
Ons Jabeur also reached the final of the Wimbledon last year. She became the first Arab-African player to play the final at The Championships. Although, she lost here in the final to Elena Rybakina, she inspired many with her performance.
Hence, she can find her rhythm back and can cause trouble for the top seeds. But she also needs to work on her fitness.
