Paula Badosa and Novak Djokovic
Spanish World No.13 Paula Badosa‘s rush to rescue the Serbian 21-time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic between the game of play has been the talk of the town. The dramatic event happened during the World Tennis league in between the mixed doubles match. The Serbian was cheering his Falcons teammates Paula Badosa and Grigor Dimitrov from the bench in the match against Kites’ Holger Rune and Sania Mirza.
The incident occurred when Falcons were trailing 0-3 in the first set. The former doubles world No.1 Sania Mirza hit a ball that unintentionally fell on Djokovic’s body. The hit was not hard but the Serbian made it dramatic by falling onto the floor in a funny way. Even though the incident was not serious, Paula Badosa rushed to the bench to make him up. The Spaniard’s rush to rescue Djokovic has gone viral in the tennis world already. Meanwhile, Sania Mirza was also seen running toward Djokovic and apologized for the hit.
Falcons eventually lost the match 2-6,6-4,5-10 and has gone out of the tournament. They will finish the tie at the bottom of the table whereas Kites will take on Hawks in the finals on December 24th. Novak Djokovic had earlier withdrawn from his singles match against Nick Kyrgios due to not being fully fit. Nevertheless, Grigor Dimitrov who had to play instead of Novak Djokovic won the singles against Nick Kyrgios 7-6(7-5),6-3.
‘Not fully fit’ Novak Djokovic still managed to win his singles match against Sebastian Ofner

Even though Novak Djokovic withdrew from his match against Nick Kyrgios, the Serbian made sure that he is available to play his last singles match of the tournament against Kites’ Sebastian Ofner. Felix Auger Aliassime was supposed to be representing Kites but due to a last-minute illness, 26-year-old Austrian Sebastian Ofner had to take up the duty against the former world No.1.
Ofner gave a tough fight and even won the first set but Serbian was too strong in the second set and the tie-breaker. The final score was 7-6(7-5),0-6,7-10. Even though Djokovic won the match, the earlier losses in mixed doubles and women’s singles were enough to keep his team Falcons out of the race.
Kites and Hawks will fight for the final glory on December 24th whereas Eagles and Falcons go home. Novak Djokovic finished the tournament with a loss and a win. He had earlier lost in his first singles match against Hawks’ Alexander Zverev 3-6,4-6. Zverev was playing his first match after the ankle injury sustained during the French Open semifinal against Rafael Nadal and nobody was expecting him to beat the in-form Serbian.
Nevertheless, the Serbian will be looking to make himself fully fit before flying to Australia. He has some work to be done and some questions to be answered after the controversial saga related to covid vaccine mandates in Australia last year.
