Petra Kvitova is a Czech professional tennis player who is known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes. She has a total number of 29 career singles titles to her name which includes her two major titles at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014. She also won a bronze medal in singles while representing the Czech Republic at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She has reached the quarterfinals in all four majors. Her career highest ranking was recorded at number two in the WTA rankings.
Kvitova had to face disappointment in Wimbledon where she was knocked out by Fourth seed Paula Badosa who dug deep to edge two-time former Wimbledon champion Kvitova 7-5 7-6(4) to book her spot in the fourth round of the Championships. Petra dominated the game early on, taking a 5-3 lead against the 24-year-old Spaniard and serving for the opening set at 5-4. But Badosa organized herself to lift her game and rebounded to win four games in a row to take the set as the Czech’s unforced errors started coming up.
Petra Kvitova inaugurated a hall of fame museum dedicated to herself
Kvitova was honoured in her hometown of Fulnek on Thursday, where the city uncovered a “Hall of Fame” museum dedicated to the two-time Wimbledon champion. Both of those Venus Rosewater Dish trophies were placed in a display case at the Petra Kvitova Hall of Fame, along with several other trophies, and various other mementoes from her exceptional career.
Kvitova uploaded a picture on social media which had a wall covered in tournament medals, while another picture had various tennis racquets she has used over the years, were organized in a circular design on a wall. The mayor of Fulnek, Petr Ertelt, announced the project in 2020 with the intention to pay homage to the star who first held a racquet in the town of Fulnek to Kvitova and assuring her hard work and dedication is passed on to future residents and visitors of the town.
“We want to pay tribute to the athlete who made her hometown famous in the world, and at the same time, introduce Petra Kvitova to the visitors of Fulnek from a hitherto little-known point of view, in terms of her childhood and first successes on tennis courts,” Petr Ertelt, Mayor of Fulnek said.
