Roger Federer dropped the retirement bomb where he stated that he will play his final matches at the Laver Cup in London which starts on 23rd September. He was hoping for a comeback this year but had been pushing it due to his injuries and unable to be at his absolute fittest.

Federer is hailed one of the greatest players of all time and has been an inspiration to millions in his glorious career that lasted 24 years, especially with his 20 Grand Slam singles titles to his name. In his retirement announcement, he stated “The last 24 years on tour have been an incredible adventure. While it sometimes feels like it went by in 24 hours, it has also been so deep and magical that it seems as if I’ve already lived a full lifetime

Roger Federer played his last match at Wimbledon in 2021 where he lost to Hubert Kurkacz in the quarter-finals. Since then he has not played a single match and his retirement rumors were doing the rounds. But they were put to stop when he expressed his desire to play one more time during the anniversary celebration event at Wimbledon.

He was supposed to play at the Swiss Basel Indoors after making his comeback at the Laver Cup but there were some rumors stating his fitness concerns and injuries as his recovery didn’t go as per his plan. The Swiss maestro had to take one of the toughest decisions of his life and his announcement broke the hearts of millions around the world and is one of the saddest days in the tennis world.

Federer is an 8-time Wimbledon champion who won his first Grand Slam title in 2003 which was also his first maiden Grand Slam title. Wimbledon gave a tribute to the champion as he drew curtains on his career by sharing the interview video after he won his first title defeating Mark Philippoussis in the final in straight sets as he spoke about his dream coming true and even got emotional at the end of the interview.
