WATCH: “Such an unprofessional brat” Alexander Bublik’s brain fade leniency in attempting a winner from his racket handle in the Metz final leaves fans in disarray
Alexander Bublik
7th seed Alexander Bublik lost to Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets 6-7(3),2-6 in the final of the Moselle Open in Metz. Despite his loss, Bublik was once again the talk in the final due to his brain fade antics in the second set. The Kazakh is considered to be one of the most unorthodox players on the tour and often gets slammed by the fans for his brat-like behavior.
During the second set in the final, Bublik was down a set and a break, and in the fifth game on his serve, he was down a breakpoint when he tried to do something very stupid. After setting up the point perfectly with a big serve, Bublik stormed to the net to smash an easy winner but what happened next was explainable.
Instead of hitting a smash and saving the breakpoint, Bublik stupidly tried to hit the ball on the handle, holding the frame of his racket in his hands. He couldn’t hit an impactful winner and ended up losing the point and went down by two breaks of serve.
The commentators were startled by seeing much casual approach from Bublik in an ATP tour final and rightly called him out for doing so. To make matters worse, Bublik just sat on his chair laughing as if it was some joke.
Tennis Twitter reacts to Alexander Bublik’s ‘illogical’ antics
Tennis fans on social media were very angry and upset with Bublik’s attitude and bashed him on social media. Doing something so casual in a final of a big tour event like Metz is frowned upon and fans called Bublik out for the same.
