Emma Raducanu has been dealing with a lot of injuries this year and it has affected her performances drastically as she is yet to make a final since her win at the US Open in 2021. She has faced many early-round exits this year already, the last being her second-round exit at Wimbledon in 2022. After her exit at Wimbledon, the Britisher will play her first match at the Citi Open 2022 ahead of the North American swing.

Raducanu, the  British No. 1. player, became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title at the US Open since Virginia Wade in 1977. Even after with such poor performances since the start of the year, she managed to make it into the Top 10 of the WTA rankings. She is at the 10th spot which is her career-best ranking now.

Emma Raducanu makes an early round exit at her debut in the doubles category

Apart from participating in the singles category, Emma Raducanu made her debut in the doubles category. She partnered with Clara Tauson of Denmark. The debutants played their first-round match against the third-seeded pair Lucie Hradecka and Monica Niculescu but eventually lost the match in straight sets 4-6, 1-6 in a span of one hour and twelve minutes. It was a comfortable win for the experienced duo as they totally dominated the game from the first point as Raducanu and Tauson lacked the coordination for their first match.

Even though Raducanu and Tauson lost the match, the young pair looked excited about being able to share some quality time during their brief stint and even the latter shared an image from the dressing room after their defeat. The image was captioned “Even though we didn’t win but we had fun“.In the picture, Raducanu was spotted smiling wide with her fingers held up to form a ‘V’, the universal sign of victory. This match will provide both players the much-needed court practice.

Even after their disastrous end to their doubles journey, they both will be looking forward to their individual matches. Raducanu, seeded second, in the women’s singles will take on Louisa Chirico in the first round while eighth seed Tauson will be up against Andrea Petkovic. Raducanu will be looking forward to defending her title at the US Open 2022.
