The French tennis player Gael Monfils is in awe of appreciation for the players who are managing both their professional tennis career and motherhood.
His wife, Elina Svitolina, is one of many women who are participating in the Australian Open after maternity leave.
It’s part of life, you know. As I say always, we have a beautiful sport, but people forget that we are human beings. That’s our sport, our job… But we have a life. And in the life people have kids. It’s beautiful to see some woman athletes actually manage both. I think it’s great. In an interview via the Australian Open, Gael Monfils said,
The French player started off his tournament in a smashing way. Monfils went on to beat Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in three consecutive sets to win the match and qualify for the second round of the match. He will be up against Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round of the tournament.
Contrasting performances for the super-moms Elina Svitolina and Noami Osaka
Many WTA players in the current draw are trying to manage both sides of their lives. However, the most prominent among them were Elina Svitolina and the Japanese star Noami Osaka.
There were a lot of differences in the situation of both players as the first round ended. While Svitolina convincingly beat Taylah Preston in the first round, Osaka was defeated by Caroline Garcia in straight sets.
However, it is to be noted that Osaka is coming back to court just after a few months of giving birth. Thus, she will need a bit of time to get going with her full strength.
However, she expressed that she is hopeful for the coming season, even after the first-round defeat. On the other hand, Svitolina has been in full flow ever since she came back. She will be facing Viktoriya Tomova in the second round of the tournament.
