Daniil Medvedev, the 26-year-old Russian professional is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world currently, ranked number 1 in the world, Medvedev has 1 Grand Slam title under his belt along with 13 ATP singles tour titles as well. In an era of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, Daniil Medvedev has done a commendable job in making a name for himself.

Currently competing at the Los Cabos Open, Medvedev emerged victorious in the first round of the event as he beat Rinky Hijikata comfortably in the round of 16 to book his place in the quarter-finals of the tournament. The Russian professional is scheduled to face Ričardas Berankis in the next round.

Playing his first match since June as Daniil Medvedev was banned from playing at Wimbledon due to the ban on Russian and Belarusian due to the war with Ukraine, the defending US Open champion eased back into form as he beat Hijikata in a comfortable win over two sets, Medvedev emerged as the victor in the tie by 6-4, 6-3.

The first win at the Los Cabos Open saw Daniil Medvedev etch his name in the history books as his win today was the 250th win of his career, he became the second man born in 1995 or later to record 250 career wins. Following his first-round win, Medvedev said, “Somebody told me this a few days ago at media day, otherwise I would not have known, that’s probably a milestone in a way. For sure I want more victories but that’s also nice to have 250. We’ll try to get more.

It’s definitely not that easy to play after you stop for a while, especially [playing my] first match on hard courts in a long, long time, since Miami, Sensations were not bad. I could have just broke a little bit more, but when you win, everything is fine. I have to play like this in the next matches.” Medvedev added further in his post-match interview.
