The most-waited final of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships will be played on Sunday (July 16) on Centre Court. World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz and World No.2 Novak Djokovic will clash against each other in the high-octane summit clash of the men’s singles event.
The Serbian legend will break many records if he lifts the elusive trophy. He will not only become an eight-time Wimbledon champion and will tie Roger Federer’s all-time record, but will lift the Grand Slam title for a record-extending 24 times.
The 20-year-old Alcaraz will be playing his first Wimbledon final and if he wins, he will become the third youngest player to become champion at SW19 after Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg. He will also join a few players who have lifted Grand Slam titles before turning 21.
But facing Djokovic will be tough for the Spanish prodigy because the Serb has not lost a match at the All England Club since 2013. He has won 34 matches in a row at Wimbledon. The 36-year-old will tie the tally (in men’s and women’s tennis) with the legendary Margaret Court with 24 Grand Slam titles. He recently won his 23rd trophy at the Roland Garros this year.
Ahead of the final, Wimbledon announced the name of the chair umpire who will be officiating the Men’s Singles Final. The chair umpire will be 52-year-old Fergus Murphy from Dublin, Ireland.
