Francisco Cerundolo

Rafael Nadal has been the best player this season despite all the injuries. He started the year by winning three back-to-back titles which included his second Australian Open title. He then was ruled out for a month due to a hairline rib fracture and didn’t win any clay title before the French Open. But he proved his mettle at Roland Garros where he won his 22nd grand slam title with an ailing foot.

Francisco Cerundolo has made good grounds this season at the Challenger Circuits. He won the Santa Cruz Challenger to start the season and then made it to the quarterfinal of the Argentina Open and the semifinal of the Rio Open. He then stunned the world by reaching the semifinals of the Miami Masters but then had a very average clay-court season. He just managed to win one match in the Wimbledon tune-up tournaments he played on grass.

This will be the first meeting between the duo. The two haven’t met on tour and hence their H2H stands deadlock at 0-0.

Rafael Nadal vs Francisco Cerundolo: Prediction

Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal

Nadal will go into the match as an obvious favorite. He has been very good all season and is undefeated in majors. He looks physically very fit and just needs to get some match practice on the surface. The only thing that might go in Cerundolo’s favor is that Rafa hasn’t played at Wimbledon for the last two years and may be a little rusty. Having said that, Nadal is expected to make it to the second round comfortably.

Prediction: Nadal to win in straight sets.
