Wishes of tennis fans have come true as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are set to contest in a Grand Slam final. Nole is the four-time defending champion going for his 24th Grand Slam title, eighth Wimbledon title, and third for the season. He took down Italian youngster Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4) in the semis to book his place in the finals.

Djokovic has dropped only two sets so far this Wimbledon, once against Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round and then against Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals. Having won both the Australian Open and the French Open this year, he is looking to clinch the Calendar Slam having come narrowly close in 2021. For that, Wimbledon is a must and nobody chases records better than the Serbian great.

Carlos Alcaraz has silenced his critics in some style this grass season. First, he won the Queen’s Club title and is now in the Wimbledon finals. He beat Daniil Medvedev in the semis recording a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 win having earlier dispatched Holger Rune 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-4. Similar to Nole, he has dropped a set only twice, in the third round against Nicolas Jarry and then in the fourth round against Matteo Berrettini.

Alcaraz is eyeing his second Grand Slam title having won the US Open last year. He’s become just the second Spanish man after Rafael Nadal to reach a Wimbledon final and now hopes to become the second Spaniard to lift the Wimbledon trophy.

Carlos Alcaraz enters the finals with an 11-0 record on grass this season while being 46-4 for the season across all surfaces. He is 15-2 on grass across his career while being 214-55 on all surfaces in his short career. Novak Djokovic will start the Wimbledon final with a 6-0 record on grass this year and a 33-4 record on all surfaces in 2023. Historically, he is 90-9 on grass and 802-125 on all surfaces across his career.

The numbers and history point toward Djokovic to be the obvious winner. Knowing how Alcaraz cramped up in their French Open semis meet due to excess pressure further solidifies the Serb’s case. But he wouldn’t be foolish to ignore the level Alcaraz is operating at. The World No. 1 certainly has the potential to upset Djokovic but the question remains if he can do it over the best-of-five on the Serb’s favorite hunting ground where he hasn’t lost since 2013.

Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in four sets.
