“Outrageous and a big disservice” – Wimbledon’s decision to move Anett Kontaveit’s potential farewell match to a court with no sitting seats has fans fuming

Upset tennis fans took to Twitter to express their frustration over Wimbledon moving former World No. 2 Anett Kontaveit’s potential farewell match to nondescript Court 6.
The 27-year-old shocked the tennis world by recently announcing that Wimbledon 2023 would be her farewell tournament. The Estonian, who attained a career-high World No. 2 ranking just last year, was forced to call time on her tennis career due to recurring lumbar disc issues.
The strange decision of the Wimbledon authorities to push Anett Kontaveit’s first-round match against Italian Lucrezia Stefanini to Court 6 has left fans less than amused. A former World No. 2 who has been forced to call it quits at a relatively young age certainly deserved more respect than being asked to play her potential farewell match on a Court with no seating facilities for fans.

Fans Demand Better Treatment for Anett Kontaveit at Wimbledon
As expected, fans were quick to express their disgust at what they felt was ‘outrageous’ and a ‘disrespectful’ move by the Wimbledon authorities. One user, while labeling the disrespect accorded to the Estonian as ‘unreal’, went on to exclaim that it is unlikely to be Anett Kontaveit’s farewell match and that she is destined to have a deep run in the tournament.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:
Some fans were hoping that the scheduling may have been caused due to an error or maybe just a prank gone wrong.
The bizarre decision to schedule Anett Kontaveit’s potential farewell match on a court with little or no seating capacity for fans is unfathomable. A player with a pedigree of winning 6 WTA titles, a runner-up finish at the 2021 WTA Finals, and a career-high ranking of World No. 2 just a year ago surely deserved better treatment. For a tournament that prides itself on its rich heritage and tradition, this decision surely is not classy.
Fans will be hoping that the Estonian, currently ranked No. 82 in the world, will use the snub to fire herself up and have a deep run at the tournament. Public disgust as well as a possible first-round victory for Anett may well cause the Wimbledon authorities to have a re-think on future scheduling of Anett’s matches.
