“Won’t forgive myself if I don’t join” Tennis star Alexandr Dolgopolov takes up arms to defend war-torn Ukraine

Alexandr Dolgopolov, the 33-year-old Ukrainian former tennis professional is one of the many players who is affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Dolgopolov retired from professionally playing tennis in 2021 and now the former professional has made a decision that has gained him a lot of popularity over the internet.
Alexandr Dolgopolov recently announced his decision to take up arms to defend war-torn Ukraine. Dolgopolov’s decision to join the Ukrainian army came after Russia recently announced the mass mobilization of reservists. Russia will be mobilizing about 300,000 troops to take over four key regions of Ukraine.
Alexandr Dolgopolov took to Twitter and wrote, “Russia announced mobilization for the third time in history. People who had no knowledge of war had enough time, to receive it. Won’t forgive my self if I don’t join and attend this historic moment. All our international friends, please continue to help, we need it. Slava Ukraine.”
Furthermore, Alexandr Dolgolopov also shared some glimpses of the destruction that the Russian troops have caused in Ukraine. The former tennis professional shared a series of pictures that showed demolished buildings that were caused by the “Russian terrorirsts.” Dolgopolov took to Twitter and wrote, “Russian terrorists attacked a civilian building in Zaporizhzhya this morning.”
Many elite tennis stars have helped war-torn Ukraine just like Alexandr Dolgopolov
The situation in Ukraine after Russia’s invasion is no secret. Many elite tennis stars have come forward in Ukraine’s aid, One name that comes to mind is the recent US Open champion Iga Swiatek’s efforts to help the victims of war. Back in July, Iga Swiatek hosted an event called “Iga Swiatek and Friends for Ukraine” where she played a couple of exhibition matches to raise money for charity.
The raised money went to the Ukrainian youth who were affected by the war. The Polish international was commended for her efforts to help the situation in Ukraine across the globe.
