Iga Swiatek touches the pinnacle of her career. As she stands at the 90th week of her career as World No.1. There aren’t too many players to choose from the list and she is alongside some of the absolute legends of the game such as Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, etc. To be honest, her reign at the top was not fairly challenged except by the Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka.
Her first 75 weeks as World No.1 came consecutively from 4th April 2022 to 10th September 2023. She was replaced by Sabalenka for eight weeks after Swiatek’s poor performances and injuries. However, she made sure she finished the year as World No.1 by winning the WTA Tour Finals and the China Open. owing to these performances, she retained the top position on November 6th.
The greatest number of weeks as the WTA world No.1 is with Steffi Graf (377 weeks). It is still really early to predict whether she will reach closer to that record.
However, she is close to another WTA legend, Lindsay Devenport’s record of 98 weeks as the World No.1. Apart from Swiatek other movements in the list include Elena Rybakina’s move to the 4th position replacing Jessica Pegula.
Iga Swiatek continues her season with the Qatar Open
The Polish tennis star didn’t start the year as she would have liked. She faced elimination in the third round of the Australian Open at the hands of Linda Noskova. However, she would like to make a comeback strongly with the Qatar Open.
The tournament started on Sunday. The Polish player will be facing Sorana Cirstea in the Round of 32 of the tournaments. With being the top seed of the tournament, she will be looking to defend her title. Various other prominent stars such as Coco Gauff and Naomi Osaka are participating in the tournament.
