The debate about moving the WTA Finals to Saudi Arabia is heating up once again. Like any debate, there are two parties- supporting and opposing the cause. While former players like Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert have already expressed their reservations, Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, and Aryna Sabalenka have also shared their opinions.

All four of the current WTA stars were asked about the WTA Finals moving to Saudi Arabia as they prepare to compete at the 2024 Indian Wells. While Iga Swiatek said she would prefer if the tournament stayed in Europe, Pegula gave a diplomatic answer.

Meanwhile, Sabalenka and Jabeur have openly supported the cause. Among the two, Jabeur strongly advocated the potential move to Saudi Arabia. The Tunisian tennis ace said that she would be the first player to go to the Middle Eastern country as it is evolving.

I think I’m the first player who would be supportive of going to Saudi, The country is evolving. I know that other people have a different opinion, which is normal, but I’ve been there a couple of times and I’ve seen how amazing people are, and how women are getting more and more rights. As a female tennis player, I feel it’s time to go there, it’s time to give the opportunity to women who dream of being tennis players.
Ons Jabuer stated.

Aryna Sabalenka says she enjoys the atmosphere in Saudi Arabia

While Ons Jabeur strongly expressed her desire to play in Saudi Arabia, Aryna Sabalenka also supported the potential move. As the Belarusian ace has played in the exhibition events in the country, she likes the atmosphere.

Sabalenka says that the people in Saudi Arabia treated her really well contrary to her perception. The Belarusian also heaped praise on the spectators for creating an amazing atmosphere in the stadium.

I expected something different. They treated us really well, It was a really amazing atmosphere in the stadium. They really like tennis.
Aryna Sabalenka said.

Notably, the Saudi Tennis Federation is pushing hard to bag the hosting rights for the year-ending championships. The board has already made a big move by signing Rafael Nadal as its brand ambassador. The ATP-PIF deal has only paved the way for the WTA Finals to move to the Middle Eastern country.
