The World No.2 Iga Swiatek will lock horns with Spanish tennis star, Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first-round match at the China Open in Beijing. The two will be across the net from each other for a second time, having clashed at Wimbledon earlier this year.

Iga Swiatek vs. Sara Sorribes: Match Preview

The former World No.1, Iga Swiatek has had a pretty good season so far. Although she isn’t in her best form, the Pole can make it past the first round with ease. Swiatek played her last match at the Japan Open, where, to everyone’s surprise, she lost her first-round match against Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova.

The World No. 2 had a disappointing summer hardcourt season, losing in the semi-finals of both WTA 1000 tournaments in Cincinnati and Montreal. She also suffered a fourth-round exit at the hands of World No. 20, Jelena Ostapenko at the recently concluded US Open tournament.

On the other hand, Sara Sorribes Tormo made her return to the courts only in April following an injury. At the Copa Colsanitas, she made it to the semi-finals. Sorribes Tormo also took part in a few ITF events, of which she won none. However, the Spaniard did manage to end up as the runner-up in one.

Though 22-year-old Swiatek was met with several disappointments in the recent past, she is still great at hitting back at her opponents. The former World No.1 was able to successfully defend her title at the French Open this year. Apart from the Grand Slam, Swiatek also emerged as the winner in the Qatar Open, the Stuttgart Open as well as the Poland Open.

Meanwhile, World No.55, Sara Sorribes Tormo has also fared well this season. Though she did not win a single event, the Spaniard beat the 28th seed, Anhelina Kalinina, in the first round of the US Open. However, she lost her second round at the Open to Wang Xinyu.

Swiatek and Tormo will face each other for a second time at the China Open, following their encounter at Wimbledon, where the Spaniard suffered a 6-2, 6-0 defeat against the Pole, Iga Swiatek.
