After a difficult hard court swing, Emma Raducanu is ready to start her campaign in the WTA Stuttgart Open on clay surface this season. The Briton tennis professional is trying to find her top-form since her triumph at the US Open 2021. She struggled with fitness and form last season and her woes does not seem to end.

The 20-year old started this season by participating in the ASB Classic but an ankle injury in the second round of the competition led her out. She then played in the Australian Open but was knocked out in the second-round by Coco Gauff. At the Indian Wells Open, she made it to the Round of 16 but here she met an overwhelming challenge in the form of the current World No.1 Iga Swiatek.

At the Miami Open, she was knocked out in the first round itself by Bianca Andreescu. Hence, the first match of the Golden swing of the season can help her build momentum for the rest of the tournament and the clay swing.

Jelena Ostapenko is also struggling with form this year. She started her season by participating in the Adelaide International 1 tournament but lost to Irina-Camelia Begu in the second round. She was knocked out of the Adelaide International 2 tournament in the first round. The Latvian tennis professional was knocked out of the Australian Open by eventual finalist Elena Rybakina.

She lost Round of 16 matches of each of the Abu Dhabi Open, Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships. At the Indian Wells Open, she reached the second round of the competition but could not pass the challenge of Petra Kvitova. She was knocked out of the Miami Open in the third round by Martina Trevisan.

Hence, this match at the Stuttgart Open is also the first match on clay of the season for Jelena Ostapenko.

Emma Raducanu is for the second time participating in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. She had made it to the Quarter-finals in 2022. However, this time she would like to win the tournament. The first match of the 2023 edition of the WTA Stuttgart Open can be the stepping stone in her path to glory.

While Jelena Ostapenko could be more than a roadblock for the Briton. She is an excellent player on clay and is also the winner of the French Open in 2017. Hence, with her experience and prowess on clay surface, it is expected that the Latvian tennis professional will be able to prevail over the Briton.
