Francisco Cerundolo reached the finals of the ATP 250 Masters in Bastad and won his first ever ATP title defeating Sebastian Baez. He had paved his way to the finals at the Nordea Open defeating the likes of Casper Ruud , the defending champion at the Bastad, Aslan Karatsev, and Pablo Carreno Busta. Cerundolo, in a recent interview with a news channel, recalled the time about his memorable encounter with the 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic after his stint at the finals of the Argentina Open in 2021. He spoke that it was the Serbian who introduced himself and congratulated him for his incredible performance in Buenos Aires. Cerundolo was way behind in the rankings then and Djokovic was then the World’s Number 1.

He said “I had just made the final here in Buenos Aires and went to Belgrade to play the qualifiers. Djokovic came to me, to say hello to me. I was ranked 110 or 120, and Djokovic came to me, introduced himself, and congratulated me for my Buenos Aires final.

He further spoke about how nice a gesture it was of him to enquire about his brother Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who happens to be a tennis player and had lifted his first ATP title at the 2021 Cordoba Open. He was left gasping at his knowledge of each and every player whom he hardly knows, along with the responsibilities he has to take care of being the number one player. He added “He congratulated me for everything that I had won. He knew everything. At least he knows everything, I don’t know about the others. He even asked about my brother, and I said to myself, Wow! This guy is No. 1 in the world, and yet he knows everything.
