Nick Kyrgios, Andy Murray
Andy Murray faced Nick Kyrgios in the semifinal of ATP Stuttgart Open 2022. It was expected to be a great match with two amazing grass-court players and it was a very competitive first set, which Murray managed to steal 7-6(7-5). Nick Kyrgios smashed his racquet and was given a point penalty. Then after being broken in the first game of the second set, there was some interaction with the crowd, which led to Kyrgios getting a game penalty for an audible obscenity.
The second set and match ended quickly for the Australian as he suffered a complete meltdown and it was revealed by him in his Instagram story that he was retaliating to a ‘racial slur’ and it was really unfair to be penalized for retaliation toward such an audience. Andy Murray was not able to enjoy his victory too much because he felt that the second set was a complete bust from Nick, but he was still very happy to make it to the final.

Andy Murray has reached his tenth ATP final on grass and it is a very satisfactory performance for the Brit, who is finding his form on the grass just ahead of Wimbledon. Murray was delighted about making it into the final in Stuttgart. He also talked about his opponent’s meltdown which made things quite easy for him. He said:
“The second set was not much fun to play, it was not very competitive, “It wasn’t really a match. He started well but closer to the end he got frustrated. The first set was tough and the end of the first set was the crucial part of the match.”
“You expect things to happen against him, so I’m not surprised when they do. It was a very frustrating set for him to lose and he broke a racquet. He also had a back and forth with the umpire and something seemed to happen in the crowd. But I didn’t really hear anything after the first set.”
Murray believes that Kyrgios’s volatility attracts such miscreants as they try to test the Australian and doesn’t disappoint them by losing his cool and his on-court outbursts. Kyrgios’s temper makes him an easy target for the hecklers to get some entertainment besides the match.
