‘Zero professionalism, fire him!’ Twitter hits back at Toni Nadal for ‘wanting’ Rafael Nadal to win despite coaching Felix Auger Aliassime

13-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal displayed once again why he is one of the most ‘clutch’ players of all time. He defeated 9th seed Felix Auger Aliassime in the Round of 16 of the French Open in five tight sets 3-6,6-3,6-2,3-6,6-3 to reach yet another quarterfinal at the French Open.

The match was much anticipated given the fact that Rafa’s uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal, is currently Felix’s coach. Before the match even started, Uncle Toni went on record to say that he doesn’t mind Rafa winning as he’s his nephew and he always wants good things for him.

Toni’s thoughts weren’t particularly liked by many as people deemed that he may be unfair towards Felix. But the Canadian too confirmed that he doesn’t have any issues with Uncle Toni’s comments. But as soon as the match ended, Uncle Toni shockingly said that he wanted Rafa to win the match. “Felix is Felix, but my nephew is my nephew. I wanted him to win. For us, this tournament will always be special,” he said as soon as Felix lost the match.

Fans on social media didn’t take Uncle Toni’s comments well. They thought that his comments were very unprofessional given that he’s working for Felix. And wanting him to lose is a level at which he shouldn’t have stooped to. While some pointed out that the Rafa biasness is something Felix already knew, others slammed Toni and asked Felix to fire him.
